Mirza Sakit sets free
Satirical writer Mirza Sakit freed today from the prison numbered, 10 after 1000-days-duration of captivity, “Media Forum” says. Collaborator of the newspaper, “Azadliq” Mirza Sakit was arrested on June 23, 2006 and charged with illegally keeping of drugs and was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment. Based on the amnesty act that was enacted by the Milli Maclis on March 17, 2009 he had been freed before his sentence finished. Davamı »
Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev reacts to Azerbaijan Press Council’s charman petition regarding the arrest of Asif Merzili, editor-in-chief of the newspaper, “Tezadlar”. This was said by Ali Hasanov, the head of social-political department of the President Administration. 
On April 7 the Yasamal Region’s Court had a session regarding special charge brought by the plaintiff: Elshad Abdullayev, rector of the Azerbaijan International University (AIU), pro-rector, Huseyn Ahmadov and tutor of AIU Eldeniz Abdullayev against the defendants: Asif Merzili, editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Tezadlar”, and journalist, Zumrud Mammadova.
